The Brief — One Product, Ten Flavours, and Giants Dominating the First Page
Sultan Delights sell one thing: authentic handmade Turkish delight. Ten flavours — Rose, Strawberry, Lemon, Almond and Coconut, Cinnamon, Clove, Ginger, Hazelnut, Mint, and Original — sold as a 50-piece mixed box for £22.95 including UK delivery. The product is genuinely excellent: gelatine-free, vegan, halal, made in small batches from traditional recipes using real ingredients. Rose petals, whole hazelnuts, fresh ginger, natural fruit essences. No artificial flavours, no shortcuts.
The problem was visibility. Searching for "Turkish delight" or "buy Turkish delight UK" puts you up against Amazon, Marks and Spencer, Waitrose, Fortnum and Mason, and a cluster of established confectionery retailers with enormous domain authority and years of SEO investment. Sultan Delights was on page five. The product was good enough to compete — but not findable enough to convert.
The brief was twofold: build a WooCommerce site that showcased the product properly and gave customers a genuinely enjoyable way to customise their box, and execute an SEO strategy that could move a specialist artisan product up against commercial giants on competitive search terms — and keep moving it up over time.

The Build-A-Box Plugin — A Custom In-House Solution for a Unique Purchase Journey
The core commercial feature of the Sultan Delights site is the Build-A-Box system — a custom WordPress plugin developed in-house by Technophobia Ltd. A customer lands on the Create Your Box page and sees all ten flavours as clickable product cards with photography of each variety. They click to add pieces of each flavour to their box. A live counter tracks their progress toward the 50-piece total. When they reach 50 the Add to Basket button activates and the complete custom box goes to WooCommerce checkout.
This is not a WooCommerce product variation or a standard grouped product — it is a bespoke plugin that handles the multi-flavour selection, the piece-count logic, the basket assembly, and the checkout integration as a seamless custom experience. A customer can have 50 pieces of one flavour, 5 of each of the ten, or any combination they choose. The purchase journey reflects the way customers actually want to buy artisan confectionery — with control, with variety, and without friction.
The Build-A-Box plugin is the reason Sultan Delights can offer a genuinely differentiated product experience that Amazon and the major retailers cannot replicate. A customer buying from Sultan Delights is building something personal. That purchase experience, combined with a product that delivers on its promise, is what drives repeat orders and word-of-mouth referrals.

The SEO Strategy — Competing With Giants on a Specialist Product

Ranking for Turkish delight search terms in the UK means competing with Amazon, Marks and Spencer, Waitrose, Fortnum and Mason, Hotel Chocolat, and an established cluster of confectionery brands with enormous domain authority and years of backlink investment. Sultan Delights started on page five. The strategy was to compete on the terms where a specialist artisan producer can beat a major retailer — not on the generic head terms where authority alone wins, but on the specific, intent-rich search terms where the authenticity, provenance, and quality of the product are commercially relevant.
The Technophobia SEO plugin was deployed to its full capability — structured data markup across every product and page, precise meta override management for every URL, canonical tag control, Open Graph and Twitter card metadata for social sharing, and schema markup that communicates to Google exactly what Sultan Delights is, what it sells, and why it is the authoritative source for authentic handmade Turkish delight in the UK.
The work is ongoing. Page five to page two is a meaningful result against this level of competition, and the trajectory is upward. Sultan Delights is a live example of what consistent, technically disciplined SEO work can do for a specialist ecommerce product with genuine quality credentials.
Ten Flavours — One Box, Your Choice
Every piece in the Sultan Delights 50-piece box is chosen by the customer. Mix and match any combination from the ten handmade varieties.
The Outcome — Climbing Against Amazon, With a Purchase Experience the Giants Cannot Replicate
Sultan Delights is live at sultandelights.co.uk. Page five to page two on Google for competitive Turkish delight search terms — competing against Amazon, Marks and Spencer, and major confectionery retailers — through ongoing SEO work powered by our Technophobia SEO plugin. The trajectory is upward and the work continues.
The Build-A-Box plugin gives Sultan Delights a purchase experience that no major retailer can offer. A customer builds their own 50-piece box from ten handmade flavours, piece by piece, in a seamless custom interface. That experience, combined with a product that delivers genuine quality, is what drives the repeat purchase rate and the word-of-mouth that supplements the SEO-driven traffic.
The Lighthouse performance score sits at 95 after performance optimisation work. The site is fast, technically sound, and set up to continue climbing as the ongoing SEO work compounds. Sultan Delights is a live example of what focused, technically disciplined ecommerce SEO can do for a specialist artisan product competing on some of the most contested confectionery search terms in the UK.
